Next Tuesday, the players of Paris football club PSG will walk into Liverpool’s iconic Anfield Road stadium wearing a new kit. For the first Champions League game of the 2018-19 season, against last year’s losing finalists, Paris Saint-Germain players will wear a black strip sporting Jordan’s Jumpman logo on the chest.

PSG will in fact be wearing Jordan throughout Europe’s top club competition, the first time on a football pitch for the US brand, traditionally associated with basketball and hip hop. Nike, official kit supplier to PSG and the owner of Jordan, is giving its second brand the opportunity of greater visibility on a new sporting arena.

Michael Jordan, the US basketball legend who is intimately involved with the future of his eponymous brand, said: “Jordan and Paris Saint-Germain have a leading position in sport and style, so that a partnership with this football club is a natural choice.” The collaboration could enable PSG to tap a new international audience.

The line includes two game kits in Nike's Vaporknit Match fabric, one in black and white and the other in reversed white and black colours - with goalkeepers also having their own two kits – as well as the Phantom VSN football boots.

It is the eclectic lifestyle range which should be especially popular with PSG fans however: it features red and black and black and white tracksuits, and t-shirts (priced at €40) with the Jordan and PSG logos in different sizes, plus jackets (priced up to €225), hats and caps. The two items expected to be the best-sellers are a basketball-style jersey sporting Michael Jordan's legendary number 23 and the PSG logo, and a new version of the Air Jordan V sneakers.

The line will be available from Friday September 14 on the PSG website and at the Jordan flagship store in Paris, inaugurated last year close to Place de la Bastille.
