John Lewis is set to spend over £2 million on its Nottingham flagship that is located in the Intu Victoria Centre with the 45-year-old location being given a more modern look and feel as well as continuing the improvement work already started following flood damage last year.

Beauty is a key growth category for John Lewis

The company wants to make the four-level 138,000 sq ft location easier to navigate for shoppers and will modernise its displays as well as installing new flooring and lighting.

Importantly, the revamp will see the beauty department being expanded with a third more floorspace to reflect the increasing importance of the beauty category in department stores these days. New prestige brands will also be added with MAC, Nars and Charlotte Tilbury all on the list.

Beauty has been a major growth category for John Lewis this year with its weekly sales report regularly calling out colour cosmetics as a growth area. But in line with the move towards experiences as much as products, the renewed store will also get a Shavata Studio within the beauty space offering a variety of treatments from manicures and pedicures to lash extensions and threading.

Local press reports said the works are due to be ready by October, in time for the expected Christmas season sales spurt, and the store will stay open during the refurbishment process.
