NEW DELHI, May 18 (Reuters) - A large stock of oilseed crop from the last season and unattractive prices of coarse cereals are likely to make Indian farmers switch to sowing more remunerative cotton and pulses this summer, the Hindu Business Line newspaper reported on Tuesday 18 May, citing trade sources.

India's oilseed stocks have surged to 14.5 million tonnes due to lower crushing by mills.

"Compared with last year, prices of coarse cereals have not shown any improvement this year. But the prices of pulses have increased," the report quoted A. Rajkumar of Alagendran group in Chennai, in south India, as saying.

He expects a 10-20 percent shift to pulses from coarse cereals.

In Gujarat, cotton crop may replace groundnut as farmers anticipate a high domestic demand for the natural fibre, the report said. (Writing by Ruchira Singh; editing by Malini Menon)
