In June, Hermès is visiting Lyon, France, to showcase its master craftsmen's skills, before setting off for in Moscow in September. The luxury label’s crafts event premiered in 2011 as the ‘Festival des métiers’ and was rechristened ‘Hermès hors les murs’ (literally, extramural Hermès) in 2016. From 20th June to 1st July, it will be held at the Palais de la Bourse in Lyon.

In November 2016, the event was staged at the Carreau du Temple venue in Paris, and in 2017 it travelled to Tokyo, Nagoya and Hakata in Japan, and to Milan. Last month, it was staged in Melbourne. The Parisian label stated in a press release that Lyon is the event’s 42nd edition, and it will be followed by a session in Moscow next September.

As for the previous editions, the event is organised around ten different modules, each of them dedicated to one of Hermès’s signature crafts. The general public will have the opportunity to witness how the group’s craftsmen “transform their materials to produce handbags, saddles, scarves, ties, jewellery and watches,” each artisan showcasing their skills and answering questions on their craft.

Besides the ten modules, the event will feature the screening of a 360º immersive film demonstrating the skills of the master glass-makers and cutters of the Saint-Louis crystal works, bought by Hermès in 1989. There will also be round-tables and workshops for adults and children, and a bistro will be serving food.
