Givenchy, Alexander McQueen to open South Coast Plaza boutiques

Givenchy and Alexander McQueen are the latest luxury labels moving into Orange County's South Coast Plaza, joining 250 other top brands who are retail tenants in the Costa Mesa mall.

South Coast Plaza appears to be emerging as a forerunner for prime West Coast real estate - South Coast Plaza

The South Coast Plaza location will be the first Orange County location for Alexander McQueen, joining an existing retail boutique on Melrose in LA. This is Givenchy's first location in Southern California.

South Coast Plaza has been on a growth trajectory as a global shopping destination and celebrated its 50th anniversary of business this year. It held a Miu Miu pop-up and partnered with luxury brands on exclusive anniversary-edition product.

A family owned property, it appears to be bucking the trend facing older US shopping malls. Indeed, signing the leases with these two luxury brands indicates it is emerging as a forerunner for prime West Coast real estate.

Typically, global luxury brands look to locations on or close to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Melrose has arguably replaced Robertson as an alternate LA-based top shopping destination. With Orange County being at least an hour's drive south of Beverly Hills, South Coast Plaza offers an interesting alternative for luxury brick and mortar.

Previously Givenchy was sold at South Coast Plaza through specialty boutique The Webster.

The Alexander McQueen boutique will open on the second floor of the Nordstrom Wing. It will join neighbors including Dior Homme and Salvatore Ferragamo. Givenchy will move into the second floor of Jewel Court, settling in with neighbors that include Cartier, Chopard and Prada.
