Gap and the UN Foundation celebrate Pride Month with capsule collection

Published

Gap is championing the fight for equality this Pride Month, partnering with the United Nations Foundation to raise awareness and funds for UN Free & Equal, a program of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to promote equal rights and fair treatment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people globally.

Created in 1998 as a US public charity by entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner, the UN Foundation builds public-private partnerships to address the world’s most pressing problems. UN Free & Equal was launched in 2013 and has since reached over a billion people globally through traditional and social media, as well as videos, graphics and plain-language fact sheets.

The new partnership between Gap and the UN Foundation, which builds on last year’s effort to raise awareness for the Free & Equal campaign, is comprised of Gap’s Pride t-shirts and Pride-themed eGift Cards. As part of Gap’s #WearYourPride campaign, 30% of net sales from the Pride t-shirts will be donated to the UN Foundation to benefit Free & Equal, and for every Pride eGift Card sold in June, $2 will be donated to the UN Foundation in support of Free & Equal up to $25,000.

“For more than 47 years, Gap has stood for equality for all, and we’re pleased to give our customers a way to express their support and celebrate Pride,” said Roy L. Hunt, SVP of Gap Inc.’s global franchise operation and executive sponsor of the company’s partnership with UN Foundation. “We are committed to doing our part to bring people together and work towards a brighter future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive as equals.”

Gap’s partnership with the United Nations Foundation comes just hours after the launch of the company’s Bridging the Gap film for gender equality. The film, which is directed and styled by Edward Enninful and features Christie Brinkley, Priyanka Chopra, Wiz Khalifa, Lineisy Montero, Jasmine Sanders and Alek Wek among others, makes a statement about what America means to each individual.

In addition to launching the film, the company curated a collection of white t-shirts, tank tops and long sleeve shirts.

The Gap Pride t-shirts will be available online and at select stores in the US, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Taiwan and the U.K. through October while supplies last, and the Pride eGift Cards will be available at Gap, Gap Factory, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Banana Republic Factory and Athleta.
