Friends of Fred Perry customize the polo shirt to mark 60th anniversary

Published

Fred Perry recently collaborated with various brands, artists and personalities to create a collection of 60 original polo shirts to mark its 60th anniversary.

From Christopher Raeburn’s rabbit to Walter van Beirendonck’s revamped logo, the polo shirts range from subtle to eccentric (photo: Fred Perry)

The 60 variations on the classic 1952 white polo shirt will be sold at various auctions throughout the year in benefit of The Amy Winehouse Foundation. 25 of the designs will be on display at popular London fashion spot, Dover Street Market, for three weeks from 26 January.

Amongst the talents that customized a polo shirt for the cause is Raf Simons, who had collaborated with the brand on a previous occasion. Other fashion names who gave their interpretation of the shirt include Christopher Raeburn, Stussy, Walter van Beirendonck, Wood Wood Bora Aksu, the brand PPQ, Sister by Sibling, Japanese brand Beams and New Zealand-born designer, Karen Walker. Fred Perry also brought on board ex-Blur and Gorillaz frontman, Damon Albarn to create a shirt, as well as cyclist Bradley Wiggins and the bands No Doubt and The Specials. Bringing a touch of français to the collection are Le Mont Saint Michel, Colette and Les Inrocks.
