According to local newspaper Brabants Dagblad, the retailer has made a bid of 1.4 million euros on eight hectares of land in the city of Tilburg, and the distribution center will be located at business park Zwaluwenbunders in the northern part of the city.

At the moment, Decathlon operates 13 stores in the Netherlands, including a 3,000-square-metre shop in Amsterdam. The Dutch branches are currently supplied from distribution centers in Belgium and Germany. However, Rohan Uijlings, director real estate and development at Decathlon, told the newspaper that due to Decathlon’s Dutch expansion, the retailer is now ready for its own distribution center. The Tilburg-based distribution center is likely to create at least 100 job opportunities, Brabants Dagblad reports.

Decathlon is planning a distribution center and office space of 30,000 square metres. A 20,000-square-metre building should follow some years later. The buildings will house a collection point and a service and repair center, amongst other business activities, according to the newspaper.

In recent weeks, it was announced that Decathlon will open stores in Groningen and Roermond.
