Coco de Mer to launch lingerie line in collab with the V&A

Luxury lingerie brand Coco de Mer is set to launch four different AW18 ranges inspired by textile and ornaments found at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

The move is part of a partnership between the museum and the London-based brand under the new vision of CEO Lucy Litwack, who led a £5m buyout of the business last year.

The lingerie and nightwear collection sees items such as an English glass and gilt scent bottles from about the 1760s adapted into delicate golden embroidery, while William Morris’ Wreathnet furnishing fabric from 1882 informs a silk nightwear print.

There is also a leaf motif inspired by a lustrous mother of pearl inlay found in the V&A’s collection of traditional Korean lacquerware, and a 17th century silk cushion cover inspires new floral embroidery detail.

Lauren Sizeland, Head of Business Development and Licensing at the V&A said: “The V&A and Coco de Mer share a passion for high quality, exquisite design so we were delighted when they approached us about a line of luxury lingerie. From the final details and finishes of each item to the product names, we have collaborated with Coco de Mer to make sure that the collection blends the V&A brand handwriting with Coco de Mer’s aesthetics.”

Lucy Litwack, CEO of Coco de Mer adds: “I have always loved the museum and as two British heritage brands with a passion for beauty we were very well matched. We met and felt that we could develop a lingerie collection that would embody key elements from both of our brands - luxury, opulence and glamour. I’m thrilled with how this first collection has materialised - it really is beautiful - and I am excited to be working together on our next collaboration for SS19.”

The four AW18 ranges, called Golden Heron, Botanical Beauty, Midnight Vine and Signature, will launch in September 2018 in global retail outlets.
