Another Toronto fashion week showcase announced

Published
Jul 6, 2017

Toronto’s fashion week calendar is shaping up to be another busy one.

Toronto Fashion Week announced on Tuesday the official fall show dates of the bi-annual festival set to take place September 5, 6 and 7.

The announcement follows the unveiling of fashion week details announced last week for Toronto Men's Fashion Week (TOM*) and Toronto Women's Fashion Week (TW) organized by Canada Fashion Group (CFG). TOM* and TW are set to take place September 26 to October 1 and October 2 to 7 respectively.

Last summer, IMG Canada pulled the plug on Toronto Fashion Week due to a lack of local support. The official Toronto fashion showcase was then purchased by Peter Freed, President of Freed Developments, in December, 2016.

Still, with the faith of Toronto Fashion Week unclear, the Canadian city saw a slew of new fashion events pop up including Re/Set, as well as the inauguration of TW.

"Toronto is a city that is experiencing exponential growth; fashion and retail have been integral contributors to this," said Freed, in a news statement, back in December. "I've witnessed it first-hand developing commercial and residential properties across the GTA over the past 15 years. With the purchase of Toronto Fashion Week® from IMG, we have the opportunity to create a multi-faceted program that embraces the Canadian fashion and design community, addresses today's retail trends and consumer interests together with the creation and integration of a strong digital platform. It's extremely exciting.”

The fall edition of Toronto Fashion Week will take place in Yorkville along Hazelton Avenue and Yorkville Avenue, Toronto’s luxury district.

The three-day festival will include fashion talks with international designers and industry experts, runway shows and fashion presentations.

St. Joseph Media has been announced as a content partner, while FASHION Magazine and Toronto Life has been announced as media partners.

More details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
