Amazon Fashion Week kicks off in Tokyo

Published
Mar 19, 2018

Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo A/W 2018 opened on Monday, kicking off a six-day schedule of presentations showcasing the autumn/winter collections of 59 brands, including 20 first-time participants and 7 foreign brands, taking place at the Shibuya Hikarie and Omotesando Hills malls, among other locations. Throughout the week, Amazon Fashion’s “At Tokyo” program will highlight four Tokyo-based brands selected to represent the Japanese capital’s fashion scene from different perspectives, namely Ambush, Mame, Neighborhood and TTT_MSW.

Alongside the runway shows, a number of other events and exhibitions have been organized around Tokyo. Friday, March 23, for example, sees the launch of the Fashion Designer Consortium program, an initiative set up by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to support young designers from the country.

The program aims to help new luxury and fashion brands follow in the footsteps of successful Japanese labels such as Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake and Sacai, and the launch features talks given by various industry specialists.

Man/Woman will also be commemorating five years of trade shows in Paris and New York with the launch of its new concept: Man/Woman Tokyo, a platform for brands to gain exposure in the Japanese market. The trade show’s first edition will run from Friday, March 23, to Saturday, March 24, at Harajuku’s Ba-Tsu Gallery, and launch with a reception on Friday organized in association with the Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo Weekend Party.
