Alexander McQueen falls for Iceland's extreme landscapes

The fashion house stays true to its emblematic codes and conceptual aesthetic for its fall/winter 2017-2018 campaign, which channels duality, contrasts and mystery. Alexander McQueen headed to Iceland to shoot the campaign, highlighting the beauty and coldness of its extreme landscapes.

The campaign is shot by British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth, whose pictures have an almost archive, documentary-style quality. For the fall/winter 2017-2018 season, Alexander McQueen has signed up Dutch model Rianne Van Rompaey, who has previously walked the runway for the label.

Two distinct reasons led Alexander McQueen to the extreme and romantic landscapes of Iceland. First, the Land of Elves is placed in parallel with the landscapes of Cornwall, which inspired the fashion house's fall/winter 2017-2018 collection. Second, Alexander McQueen has sought out contradiction. The black and white photographs play with light, shot outdoors in nature's midst on a black sand beach or at a waterfall. These stand in stark contrast to other campaign shots taken indoors, with warm saturated colors.

Internationally renowned model Rianne Van Rompaey was particularly busy in 2017, starring in ads for the Chanel "Chance" fragrance and Chanel makeup, as well as Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear collection.
