Adidas collaborates with Parley on eco-friendly shoe

Published
Oct 9, 2017

The first product from Adidas Originals and Parley is made with recycled Parley Ocean plastic, which was recovered from Maldivian beaches and coastal communities.

Like many major brands, Adidas is continuing to make eco-friendly production and sustainable practices a part of its branding. With its collaboration with Parley, the shoe brand has created a sneaker made of recycled plastic.

The EQT Support ADV will launch on October 14. The shoe comes in two different colorways, a light blue and a dark blue, both reflecting the marine origins of its materials. Though it uses new construction, the shoe’s style is reminiscent of an Adidas Originals model from the 1990s.

Parley has in the past worked with the main Adidas label and the Stella McCartney x Adidas label on sustainable footwear. The British designer has been prominent in the luxury fashion industry in creating pieces that are environmentally friendly, having incorporated vegan leather into her brand since its beginning.

In recent months, more and more fashion labels and retailers have begun to put sustainability at the forefront. Walmart recently pledged to reduce its chemical footprint in a new commitment to transparency and sustainability in its products. Other mass retailers such as H&M and Selfridges have made similar pledges this year.
